Flagler County, Florida, located along the Atlantic coast between Daytona Beach and Jacksonville, was the nation’s fastest-growing county, experiencing a 10.1 percent population increase, according to estimates released today by the U.S. Census Bureau. Florida led all states with 14 of the nation’s 100 fastest-growing counties.

The latest numbers from the U.S. Census Bureau show Flagler County is the only county in the country with double digit growth between 2003 and 2004. It tops the list of the fastest growing counties in the country.

But a host of others are thriving, luring retirees, vacationers, or those escaping urban sprawl. In fact, over the last 10 years, 8 of the top 12 metro/micro areas in job growth were micropolitans, led by Palm Coast, Florida, which averaged 6.9% gains annually (an overall increase of 95%).
